WHILE SHOOTING A FILM” by Xhanfize Keko – SPECIAL SCREENINGS IN ISRAEL

WHILE SHOOTING A FILM” – SPECIAL SCREENINGS IN ISRAEL

Following “Tomka and his friends” that, especially the last three years, has attracted specialized criticism and international audience in France, US and in the UK, another well-known Xhanfise Keko’s film is about to contacting foreign audience.

This time is the movie “When shooting a film” that screens in Israel 35 years after its first release in 1981. Subtitled in Hebrew, it will be presented before the Israeli public in October 30, 2016 in the central theare of the Tel Aviv Cinematheque. The next special screenings will be in the Cinematheque of Haifa on October 31 and Jerusalem Cinematheque on November 1, 2016.

Introduced by Elvira Diamanti, Director of the National Film Archive of Albania, “When shooting a movie” screens in Israel in three events curated very carefully by the producer Genc Përmeti, a licensed international distributor of Xhanfise Keko’s works and thanks to his collaboration with the National Centre of Cinematography, National Film Archive and the Albanian Embassy in Israel.

“When shooting a film”, was much discussed in Albania in 1981, for treating the theme of divorce and gender parity. This film was awarded the special prize in Giffoni Film Festival, Salerno, Italy in 1983 and was since then screened in many international film events in Denmark, Canada, Syria, Algeria, France, Greece, and recently in Paris in March 2016, at Cinema Du Reel Festival.

“In the universe of socialist realism, Xhanfize Keko’s 1981 film is the nearest one could get to a genre-bending, fiction-reality mash-up. Taking the cue from the anguish suffered by one of the child actors in her previous production Tomka and His Friends, Keko – lovingly known as “Aunt Xhano” – whips up a drama about gender parity at work and at home.” – Clarence Tsui, Cinema Du Reel 2016, Paris
