Press Release – New funding opportunities boost film co-production in the South Adriatic

On April 2nd, 2026, the National Center of Cinematography (NCC) organised its first information day in Tirana within the framework of the project FRAME – Fostering Regional Advancement and Market Expansion of Audiovisual SMEs in the South Adriatic, presenting new opportunities for audiovisual professionals in the region.

The session focused on the “Open Call – South Adriatic Film Co-Development Fund”, highlighting concrete funding opportunities for international co-production and the development of high-quality audiovisual projects. Representatives from the cultural and film sectors attended the event, gaining practical insights into the call priorities, eligibility criteria, and application procedures.

The South Adriatic audiovisual sector faces challenges related to limited cross-border collaboration, fragmented markets, and restricted access to financing for co-development initiatives. These barriers hinder the growth and international competitiveness of audiovisual SMEs in the region.

To address these challenges, the FRAME project supports structured regional cooperation and introduces targeted financial mechanisms, such as the Co-Development Fund, to foster partnerships between EU and IPA countries, enhance creative potential, and stimulate joint project development.

Through this initiative, at least eight audiovisual projects are expected to benefit from co-development support, strengthening regional collaboration, increasing the quality of productions, and enhancing the visibility of the South Adriatic as an attractive filming destination.

The FRAME project is funded by the Interreg IPA South Adriatic Programme and implemented by a regional partnership composed of Apulia Film Commission (Italy) as lead partner, the Film Centre of Montenegro, the National Center of Cinematography (Albania), and Fondazione Molise Cultura (Italy).

The Interreg IPA South Adriatic 2021 2027 is a cross-border cooperation Programme co-funded by the European Union through the Instrument for Pre-Accession (IPA III), with a total budget of 81.258.768,19 euro (including 17,51% co-financing). It widely builds on the results of the Interreg IPA CBC Italy-Albania-Montenegro programme 2014-2020.

The programme is managed by Puglia Region, which participates together with another Italian Region, Molise; Albania and Montenegro participate with the entire territory. The objective is to promote a smarter, greener, more connected, more social and better governed South Adriatic and to intensify cooperation in the area, by implementing joint actions between national and regional institutional and non-profit actors and by fostering smart inclusive and sustainable development.
